CGEP has committed $2.65 million of capital to improve incomes and create jobs for beneficiaries. In 2013, together with Fundación Carlos Slim, CGEP created its first social enterprise, Acceso Oferta Local – Productos del Caribe (Access to the Local Supply – Products of the Caribbean), which provides training and inputs to smallholder farmers and fishermen in an effort to help improve their yields and productivity, as well as assist them with the consolidation of their harvest. CGEP also reduces the number of value chain intermediaries, helping farmers to connect directly with buyers and avoid losing profits to “middle men”. As a result of CGEP’s enterprises, farmers substantially increase their income.
